My Experience With Bitter Melon
& How I Finally Lowered My Glucose Levels

by Tricia on April 7, 2014 30 Comments

After A 2-YEAR Struggle, Here's What I Discovered...
What Worked & What Didn't

Hi, My name is Tricia ... For those of you who have followed some of my articles and blog posts, or on my Twitter account... know that I've had a heck of a time with my attempts to lower my blood sugar and have healthy glucose levels.

Today I'll quickly go over what has worked best for me - diet, exercise and supplements. You can learn from my mistakes, save yourself time and money and hopefully get similar results. I lowered my glucose levels by 37 pts in 8 weeks. Although results may vary for you - depending on your goals and overall efforts, but what I'll share with you is not hard to do at all...

Summary of Results

Prescription Drugs

Before I get started, I want to let you know that my doctor's first advice was "improve your diet and let's start you with a prescription glucose lowering drug"

I quickly said "no thanks, I want to do it naturally because my sister-in-law has been on that exact medication and she feels HORRIBLE all the time"... And I'm glad I did, because everything worked out at the end.

So, if you've been told the same (you need to take a drug) or maybe you're already taking one, there is hope - so don't worry.

The Best All-Around Diet

So, over the past couple of years I've tried lots of different diets, as I'm sure you have also. I'd like to say "I've tried them all", but... there are so many of them. But, the one that worked best for improving my blood sugar levels was a "Paleoletic" Diet:

  • The Paleo Diet (details)
This diet basically says to eat like our "caveman" ancestors did. Eat whatever you want, as long as it's natural, not man-made and doesn't come in a box. The benefit to this diet is that the carbohydrate sources have low glycemic index and thus, don't raise my blood sugar too much.

Also, because of the higher fiber content from fruits and vegetables, I was more satisfied throughout the day. But, I still made sure I ate at least 4x daily, usually around 5 "mine meals/snacks" - which kept my blood sugar more stable.

Summary: It was a big change from my typical diet, but after about a month, my glucose levels were 7 pts lower with the blood test. So, even though I needed more of an improvement, it was a step in the right direction. Plus, I lost about 4 lbs too... :-)

Exercise - What's the best?

I know everyone says to do "lots of cardio" to lose weight and improve your blood sugar, but that didn't work so much for me. Running all the time just ended up making me lose fat AND muscle, so I started to look flabby and squishy/soft. I had no "shape". So, long story short - here's what I do now:

  • Lift Weights - cables, dumbbells, machines, or similar. 3x a week. Emphasis is arms and lower body. I can do everything at home actually, if I don't feel like going to the gym.

  • Walking - I walk a lot now. 20-30 minutes almost every day, at least 3x a week. I usually do this on my lunch break with some co-workers. It's nice to be outside and get some fresh air.

Doing both weights and walking has really helped "tone" me up, as I lose the fat. The combination is much more powerful than doing just cardio alone. And NO, I didn't "bulk up" or anything like that. I still look very feminine =)

Summary: Exercise (both resistance and cardio) helps improve "insulin sensitivity" and therefore, less insulin is secreted -- which means lower glucose levels. Plus, losing weight helps improve blood sugar levels too.

The Big Problem - Results Stopped!!!

All the above was great - I felt and looked better, plus my blood sugar levels had improved and my total glucose levels were 11 pts lower. It wasn't "amazing", but at least it was positive news.

But, my doctor insisted on the drugs again because he said "you need to lower it MORE, at least 10-15 more pts". I didn't know what else to do - all the "dieting" and exercise was a LOT of work as it was. I got a bit hopeless again...

Nature's Secret Blood Sugar Reducer!

But after a couple weeks of researching Google, looking on forums and asking around, it seems that an all natural ingredient called Bitter Melon could really help improve my glucose levels by:

  • improving insulin sensitivity (less insulin is secreted when I eat)
  • lowering blood sugar levels (less insulin is needed)

All of this without any potential negative side-effects. It had a few other health benefits too. This was great news!...

WARNING

As with anything, there are always potential "negatives" and here are a few things you want to watch out for. Generally speaking, Bitter Melon has been shown to be safe, when taken in proper dosages. However, a few things to consider:

  • As seen in the clinical studies, you want to ONLY use the"extract" form and NOT the "raw powder" or even fruit - which doesn't have any glucose lowering benefits.
  • The CORRECT extract for use is standardized for 2.5% bitter principles, including charantin.
  • You don't want to take only Bitter Melon by itself, because you would need a very high dosages to feel the glucose lowering benefits. And not only are there potential side-effects at higher dosages - such as liver stress, but your body will adapt quicker and thus, an even higher dose will be required over time.

It's best to combine Bitter Melon with other ingredients (more on this below) for improved benefits and reduced side-effects.

Anyway I began using it and I did notice an improvement in how I felt. I had more energy. Less cravings for sugars and carbohdyrates too. I was super motivated again!

More Research, More Ingredients - Better & Faster Results!

I got curious and wondered what other natural ingredients were out there, that could further speed up my results and make this whole process a little bit easier...

The more research I did, the more all-natural ingredients I found that help lower glucose and blood sugar levels, give you more energy and reduce cravings.

Everything we want to help us get better effects and faster results. So, here's a list of key ingredients that you should consider taking:

  • ChromeMate® (as Chromium Polynicotinate)
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid (NA-R version is best)
  • Cinnamon Extract (4:1 ratio)
  • Bitter Melon
  • Gymnema Sylvestre Extract (75% Gymnemic Acids)
  • Bilberry Leaf Extract (25% Anthocyanosides)
  • Fenugreek Extract
  • Banaba Leaf Extract (1% corosolic acid)
  • L-Taurine

Additionally, don't forget some essential vitamins and minerals that are typically lacking and not being absorbed properly by individuals with glucose problems. The most important are:

  • Magnesium (as Glycinate & Citrate)
  • Vitamin C
  • B-Vitamins (B1, B3, B5, B6 and B12)
  • Zinc Picolinate
  • Manganese
  • Selenium
  • Biotin (very important)

I wanted to try all of these ingredients but... I'll be honest. I didn't have the money, nor the desire to be popping all these different pills and ingredients all day long.

So... I kinda just gave up until about 2-3 weeks later when I discovered that:

"The Perfect Formula Already Exists!..."

Well, just when I was about to give up - I saw a Television interview with Dr. Sam Robbins about "blood sugar myths", the causes and solutions for diabetes...

It was a fascinating interview; Dr. Robbins really knew his stuff and yet, kept the information simple to understand.

But anyway, as it turns out Dr. Sam already HAS this "Perfect Formula" in an all-natural solution called Blood Sugar Optimizer™. It has all the ingredients that I mentioned and found during my own research, plus lots of other good ones.

Here are some highlights about Blood Sugar Optimizer™:

  • It's a complete, all-in-one solution -- optimizes blood sugar levels, improves glucose metabolism, prevents cravings, mood swings, energy crashes and lots of other benefits.

  • It contained all-natural, organic ingredients - specific herbs and vitamins.

  • Years of real-life results and thousands of users - so, you know it works. Best of all for me, it was convenient. It was everything I needed in one, small capsule. So, it saved me a lot of money as well.

Blood Sugar Optimizer™ worked for me because the last check up my glucose level was 37 pts lower and my doctor was finally happy - even though he's still skeptical. I believe in the product so much that we left Dr. Sam a very happy review of the product (see below).

My Review For Blood Sugar Optimizer

Although results may vary for you - depending on your goals and overall efforts.

What YOU Should Do Next...

While you can spend the next two weeks or even just the next two hours reading and researching, at some point you're going to have to make a decision. It is one that could change your life and should not be taken lightly. But you do NOT want to be one of those people who sit on the fence, thinking about doing something. No more excuses about not being able to do it.

Bitter Melon does work. But it should NOT be used alone, because it works better with a few other key ingredients (synergy!).

Think about it. Just like you don’t eat only broccoli for best health, you don’t want to use only one herb or nutrient either.

What you should do next is Click HERE and give Blood Sugar Optimizer™ a try. Watch their free video and read all the Reviews too… Obviously, don't take prescription drugs. And diet + exercise helps, but Blood Sugar Optimizer™ just makes everything so much easier and results happen faster!

I also like the Paleo diet too. It's just easier to follow and I feel healthier as well. So, it looks like you got some really good results. How many pills were you taking daily? Thanks for the article... it's helped reduce the confusion for me :)

Hi Gracelyn, thanks for your post. I took what the bottle recommended, which was about 1-2 capsules before my meals. This last week I've increased it to 2 caps, 3x daily just to see how much my glucose levels improve with my glucometer test - so far, results are really good! =) ... I'll keep you posted next month.

    Hello Tricia

There are so many supplements out there, why did you select Blood Suar Optimizer? Why not something else more "popular" like those advertised on TV or ones that are doctor endorsed? Don't those work better?

    • Tricia says:
      April 7, 2014 at 8:07 pm

Great question. First, Blood Sugar Optimizer IS doctor endorsed and it even contains clinically proven ingredients. Plus, all the ingredients were proven to work, based with lots of research references.

Now, I did try different products - but none of them worked as well and more so, they weren't as "complete".

Also, the product has been around for years, with lots of users. So, I know it's got a proven track record. Not like some products that come and go. Know what I mean?...

PS - There was no "hype" or sales junk either. It's just convenient and got everything in one capsule.

Hi Tricia, nice article. I've also had good results with Blood sugar optimizer. Actually, I like and use a lot of the products Dr. Sam makes.

Thanks Scott. I'm thinking of using their weight loss products too and the cholesterol for my dad. Have a great nice =)

You seem to have gotten really good results - did you not change anything else? I mean, not to sound rude, but I'm just skeptical. Thanks for your help :)

    • Tricia says:
      April 10, 2014 at 8:07 pm

I completely understand David. I think we ALL have been scammed. Just so many advertising "promises" out there these days, especially online. But like I said, I DID improve my diet and exercise as well. They BOTH did help - so, that's good. But, just not as much as I wanted or my doctor needed.

The big different came with using the blood sugar optimizer pills. Honestly, they also gave me more energy since my glucose levels were healthier levels and I think that allowed me to maybe exercise a bit more?... not really sure since I didn't write everything down. sorry... but, the pills do work - that much I know.

Yes, it makes sense. Thanks for being honest.

Can you please let me know how long will Blood Sugar Optimizer last me? ... HOW MANY pills?

    • Tricia says:
      April 11, 2014 at at 10:18 pm

There are 90 capsules in each bottle and it's a 30 day supply when used as suggested. 3-4 capsules daily, with the weekends off. I used a little more since I wanted faster results, so it lasted me about 3 weeks. So you might want to try multiple bottles (I get their buy 2, get 1 free offer)..

What if the product does not work? Is there any guarantee? I'm tired of trying products that don't work.

    • Tricia says:
      April 12, 2014 at 8:03 pm

Yup, I totally understand. Actually, they have a really amazing guarantee and it was a big reason I decided to try it. It's a one-year guarantee. So, you've got plenty of time and nothing to risk.

Have you had any negative side-effects from it? Also, what else are you taking other than Sugar Optimizer?

    • Tricia says:
      April 14, 2014 at 8:04 pm

No side-effects. I take it right before I eat.

I'm taking a multi-vitamin like usual and also taking fish oils. I actually get the Costco brand (which Dr. Robbins suggest). It's good quality and cheaper than most. I take about 3000 mgs daily, 3 pills and then my Blood Sugar Optimizer of course.

Do you know if they ship globally? Where are you located? I live in Canada, but my parents live in the UK - I thought maybe I should get some for them as well. Thanks again for the informative post.

You're welcome Rose. Yes, they do ship globally, everywhere I think. I live in TX. They're one of the few companies that do ship internationally, so that's good for you and your parents.

PS - don't forget to post your results above in the comments section. And let me know if there's anything natural that's worked for you as well, or something like that.
